Editing
Trust the process
A year ago (yesterday) I announced my intention to publish a book about growing up in a high demand religion and the experience of wrestling with a faith you inherit.
It started as essay skeletons and became a memoir of self exploration that has changed the person writing it.
I am in what I expect to be the final edit
(proofreading aside) and am in the middle of the last chapter I wrote. It’s not the last chapter of the book, but it was the concept I saved for last.
What’s been interesting is that this chapter has undergone so many changes and iterations and I finally realized it was two chapters; two emotions about two angles of the same belief wrestling over each other.
I really think the process will be all downhill after this point, but the story is so much clearer now. The emotional weights have room to breathe.
The most interesting outcome of this most recent pass is that the essay structure that once existed has almost completely disappeared.
My beta readers won’t be reading the same book next time. I’m getting excited.
